The short version
- Toldit is a Mac app made and run by Luc Python and Gilles Bertheau, two people in Switzerland. Paddle sells the subscription for us, as our reseller.
- You must be 18 or older.
- Toldit uses AI. AI answers can be wrong, so check anything important. Toldit does not give health, legal or financial advice.
- Your notes are yours. We handle them only for the things listed in section 7, like saving, syncing and getting your AI answers. We never use them to train AI and never sell them.
- Only record a conversation when everyone in it agrees.
- Toldit costs USD 29.99 a month or USD 249 a year, before tax, after a 7-day free trial. Cancel before the trial ends and you pay nothing.
- Your subscription renews until you cancel. You can cancel at any time.
- You can get a refund if you ask within 14 days of a payment, or later where the law gives you more time.
This summary helps you read the terms. The full text below is what counts.

Who sells the subscription. Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. When you buy Toldit, you buy it from Paddle, and Paddle's buyer terms and refund policy apply to the purchase, including payment, renewal, cancelling, refunds and withdrawal: paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms. Our account with Paddle is in Luc Python's name.
These terms cover Toldit itself and how you use it, and we are responsible for Toldit. For anything about the app, write to us.
2. Who can use Toldit
You can use Toldit if:
- you are 18 or older and can legally agree to these terms;
- you do not live in, and do not use Toldit from, a country or region under comprehensive sanctions, or a country where OpenAI does not offer its services (developers.openai.com/api/docs/supported-countries);
- you are not on a sanctions list of Switzerland, the EU, the UK, the US or the UN.
Consumers and business users. You are a consumer if you use Toldit mainly for purposes outside your trade, business or profession. If you use Toldit for your work or business, you are a business user, and you confirm that you may accept these terms for it. Some rules below apply only to consumers or only to business users.
Other people's data at work. If you use Toldit for your work with personal data of other people, such as clients or colleagues, our data processing agreement applies. Ask for it at hello@toldit.ai.
3. What Toldit does
Toldit is a Mac app. You hold a key and talk. Toldit turns your speech into text on your Mac, with a speech model that runs on your Mac. It then uses AI in the cloud to answer your questions, keep your calendar and reminders, and make a page in your notebook when you ask for one.
Dictation into other apps happens entirely on your Mac. Nothing you dictate is sent to us or to our AI providers.
Your notebook is saved on your Mac. If you turn on sync, it is also kept in your account, so it is the same on each Mac where you sign in.
Meetings. Toldit can record a meeting, from your microphone and your Mac's sound, and keep its text. It keeps only the text, not the audio.
Calendar. Events you create with Toldit live in Toldit's own calendar. Toldit can show your Apple Calendar events, but it does not change them.
Reminders are notifications on your Mac. They only appear when your Mac is on, and they do not reach your phone. Do not rely on Toldit for anything critical, such as medication.
What you need: a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 13.3 or later (14.2 or later to record meetings) and a Toldit account. Everything that uses AI also needs an internet connection and an active subscription or free trial.
Toldit uses artificial intelligence. When Toldit answers you or writes a page, you are dealing with an AI, not a person. The app tells you this before your first AI request.
AI answers can be wrong. They can be incomplete, out of date or invented. Check anything important yourself, especially dates, amounts and facts. Toldit does not give health, legal or financial advice: when you ask for it, it says so instead of answering. Do not rely on Toldit in an emergency.
What Toldit is for. Toldit is for organising your own notes, calendar and questions. It is not made for decisions about other people, such as about hiring, credit, housing, insurance or schooling.
Open-source software. Toldit includes open-source software. Credits and licences are in the app under Help › Open-Source Notices.
4. Your licence and your account
Your licence. You may install the Toldit app on your Macs and use it for yourself. Its AI needs an active subscription or free trial. Toldit's code, design and name stay ours. You may not copy, sell or take Toldit apart, except where the law allows it.
Your account. You create your account on our website when you start Toldit. Keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us at once if someone else may be using your account. A subscription is for one person. Give us correct information and keep your email address up to date, because we use it for important notices.
5. Price, free trial, renewal and cancelling
Price. Toldit costs USD 29.99 a month or USD 249 a year, before tax. Where VAT applies, your local price includes it. In some places, such as the US and Canada, tax is added at checkout. Paddle shows your price and any tax before you pay, and the price at checkout is the price you pay.
What your subscription includes. Everything in Toldit, with a monthly AI allowance for fair use. Normal use doesn't reach it. If you reach it, Toldit's AI pauses until your allowance renews the next month; the rest of Toldit keeps working. During the free trial, the allowance is in proportion to the trial's length.
Free trial. Your first 7 days are free, with everything included. A card is needed to start. If you cancel before the trial ends, you pay nothing. If you don't, your subscription starts when the trial ends, and Paddle takes your first payment.
One free trial per Mac. If this Mac or your card already had a free trial, including on another account, the new trial ends at once and nothing is charged. You can then subscribe without a trial. This keeps the free week fair. The privacy policy explains how we recognise a Mac or a card that already had a trial.
Renewal. Your subscription renews automatically every month or every year, depending on your plan, on the same date as your first payment, until you cancel. Paddle charges your payment method.
If a payment fails, Toldit's AI stays on for one more day, then pauses until a payment goes through. Your notes stay readable and exportable.
Cancelling. You can cancel at any time:
- on toldit.ai/account, with Manage payment and plan;
- through the "Manage subscription" link in Paddle's emails about your subscription;
- by asking Paddle at paddle.net.
Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and you keep full access until then. If you cancel during the free trial, you pay nothing, and Toldit's AI stops when the trial ends.
Price changes. If we raise the price, we tell you by email at least 30 days before, and the app asks you to accept the new price. If you accept, the new price applies from your next renewal. If you do not accept, your subscription ends at the end of the period you have paid for, and you pay nothing more.
6. Refund policy and your right of withdrawal
Refunds within 14 days. You can get a refund of a payment if you ask within 14 days of it. A refund ends the subscription it paid for. We may refuse a refund where we see fraud or abuse of this policy.
How to ask. Ask Paddle at paddle.net or through the link in Paddle's receipt, or write to us at hello@toldit.ai. Paddle makes the refund.
Where the law gives you more, you get more. These 14 days never reduce a right you have by law or under Paddle's refund policy (paddle.com/legal/refund-policy).
Withdrawal in the EU, the EEA, Switzerland and the UK. If you live there and use Toldit as a consumer, you can withdraw from your subscription within 14 days of buying it, without giving a reason. If your subscription begins with a free trial, you get 14 days again from the day the trial ends. Paddle's buyer terms and refund policy explain this right, when it applies and how Paddle refunds you.
How to withdraw. In the EU and the EEA, Paddle's customer portal has a withdrawal button: open the portal from toldit.ai/account (Manage payment and plan) or through the "Manage subscription" link in Paddle's emails. Everyone can also withdraw by writing to Paddle at paddle.net, or to us.
7. Your notes and pages
Your content stays yours. Everything you say, write or add to Toldit, and what Toldit writes for you, belongs to you, as far as we or our AI providers have any rights in it. Toldit's own code, templates and styles inside your pages stay ours, and you may use them with your pages.
What we do with your content. We handle your content only to:
- save it on your Mac and, if you turn on sync, in your account, and show it to you;
- send your requests through our AI server to our AI providers to get your answers (our AI providers may keep requests for a limited time to check for abuse, as the privacy policy explains);
- keep backups and keep Toldit secure;
- store it with the service providers that run Toldit for us, listed in the privacy policy;
- help you, when you ask us to look at something or send us a problem report;
- check a specific report that something breaks the law or these terms;
- comply with the law or an order from an authority.
We never use your content to train AI models, and we never sell it.
Your responsibility. Only add material you are allowed to use, such as pictures and PDFs, and use Toldit lawfully.
Taking your notes with you. You can export your notes at any time, free of charge: each page with its data and history as JSON, your requests as Markdown or JSON, and your time tracking as JSON. Your notebook also stays on your Mac.
Switching to another service. You can move to another service at any time: export your notes, cancel, and delete your account. We charge nothing for switching.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account at any time, on toldit.ai/account or in the app under Settings › Data › Delete my data. This deletes your account and your synced notebook, as the privacy policy describes, and ends your subscription at once, so nothing more is charged. For a refund of your last payment, see section 6. The notebook on your Mac stays until you delete it.
8. What you must not do
Do not use Toldit to:
- break the law, or help someone else break it;
- record a conversation without the consent of the people in it where the law requires consent. In Switzerland it always does, and many other countries and US states require everyone's consent. Tell everyone before you record;
- infringe other people's rights, including copyright and privacy;
- harass, threaten or deceive people;
- create or store illegal content, including any sexual content involving minors;
- profile or track people, or collect their personal data unlawfully;
- make important decisions about people, such as about credit, housing, jobs, insurance or schooling;
- pretend that AI-written text was written by a person where that misleads others;
- give other people tailored legal, medical or financial advice without a qualified professional;
- copy, take apart or extract the AI models, or use Toldit's answers to build a competing AI model;
- get around limits, safety features or security, including jailbreaking or prompt injection;
- resell or share your access, or overload the service;
- test the security of Toldit without our written permission. To report a security issue, write to hello@toldit.ai.
The usage policies of our AI providers also apply to Toldit's AI: OpenAI's Usage Policies (openai.com/policies/usage-policies) and, when Toldit uses its backup, Anthropic's Usage Policy (anthropic.com/legal/aup).
9. Reports, restrictions and complaints
We do not scan your private notes. We act on reports and on orders from authorities. Our AI providers run their own automated abuse checks on the requests they receive.
Reporting illegal content or misuse, including copyright infringement: write to hello@toldit.ai. Give your name and email, what the content is, where it is and why you think it is illegal or breaks these terms, and confirm that you report in good faith. For reports of child sexual abuse material, your name and email are optional. We confirm receipt, check the report, decide, and tell you our decision.
If we restrict your account or content, we tell you why and how to object, unless the law forbids it. A person reviews every objection. We only restrict or close an account for a real reason, such as illegal content, a serious or repeated breach of these terms, a security threat or unpaid fees. Where we can, we warn you first. If we close your account without it being your fault, we refund the unused part of what you paid.
Danger to life or safety. If we learn of a threat to someone's life or safety, we inform the authorities at once.
Contact points. Authorities and users can reach us at hello@toldit.ai, in English and German. Our legal representative in the EU under the Digital Services Act: Prighter DSA GmbH, represented by Dr. Andreas Mätzler, Schellinggasse 3, 1010 Vienna, Austria; support@prighter.com; +43 1 997 41 24; Trust Center. Our representatives under the GDPR and the UK GDPR are listed in the privacy policy.
10. Other services
Toldit works with services run by others, such as our AI providers (OpenAI, with Anthropic as a backup), Paddle, the companies that host our servers, weather data from MET Norway and speech model downloads from Hugging Face. We choose these services carefully, but we cannot guarantee that they are always available. Weather data comes from MET Norway, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
11. Updates and changes
Updates. We keep Toldit working and safe while your subscription runs, including security updates. We tell you about updates you need. If you do not install an update we told you about, we are not responsible for a problem it would have fixed.
Changes to Toldit. We may change Toldit, for example to follow new laws, keep it secure, adapt to changes at our providers, or improve it. Changes come at no extra cost, and we describe them in the release notes. If a change affects how you can use Toldit more than slightly, we tell you by email beforehand. You can then cancel free of charge within 30 days of the email or of the change, whichever is later, and we refund the unused part of what you paid.
Changes to these terms. When a change to these terms affects your rights, the app and the website show you the new terms and ask you to accept them. Until you accept, the old terms apply. If you do not accept within 14 days, your subscription ends at the end of the period you have paid for. Small corrections apply without this step.
12. Availability and support
We work to keep Toldit running, but we cannot promise that it is always available. The AI features need an internet connection and our providers. Your notebook on your Mac keeps working when they are down. For help, write to hello@toldit.ai.
13. Limits of our responsibility
Your legal rights come first. Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country, including your rights if Toldit does not work as agreed.
Except in the cases listed at the end of this section, these limits apply:
- Consumers. If we are only slightly negligent, we are responsible only if we breach an essential duty, and only for damage that is typical and foreseeable. An essential duty is one that makes Toldit possible at all and that you can rely on, such as keeping your notes safe.
- Business users. If we are only slightly negligent, we are responsible only for damage that is typical and foreseeable, and in total at most for what you paid for Toldit in the 12 months before the damage happened. You also cover us against claims by others that arise from your content or from your breach of these terms.
Where no limit applies. These limits do not apply to damage caused on purpose or through gross negligence, to injury to life, body or health, to claims under product liability law, or where the law forbids a limit.
AI answers. You decide how you use Toldit's answers and pages. Check important results before you rely on them.
14. When your subscription ends
You can cancel at any time (section 5) and delete your account (section 7). We can end your subscription with 30 days' notice by email, for example if we stop offering Toldit, and refund any prepaid time you have not used. We can end it at once only for a serious reason (section 9).
When your subscription ends, Toldit's AI stops. Your notes stay readable and exportable.
15. Law and courts
If you use Toldit as a consumer, the law of the country where you live applies. You can bring a claim against us in Zurich, Switzerland, or in the courts where you live.
If you use Toldit as a business user, Swiss law applies, without its conflict-of-law rules and without the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The courts of Zurich, Switzerland, have exclusive jurisdiction.
16. Export control
Toldit contains encryption. You may not use or export Toldit in breach of the export control or sanctions laws of Switzerland, the EU, the UK or the US.
17. Final points
- If Toldit moves to a company. If we move Toldit into a company we own, your subscription moves with it. We tell you by email beforehand, and you can cancel at any time.
- Invalid clauses. If a clause is invalid, the rest still applies. For consumers, the legal rule then replaces the invalid clause.
- Language. These terms are in English.
- Notices. We send notices to the email address of your account.
